Task description - The scope of services includes the following tasks, which are independently performed by the external consultant:



- Developing an overview of the current and future market and technology situation:


- Overview technology situation incl. Technology Readiness Level (TRL), Time To Market (TTM), producer, price indicators, advantages and disadvantages


- Overview of current developments of urban quarters incl. the used technologies


- Assessment of market situation and potential in Germany incl. current value driver and economic feasibility


- Overview of current and future subsidies on a national and EU level


- Identification of typical market players, competitors with their unique selling proposition (USP) and customers


- Assessment of regulatory impact, risks and opportunities


- Overview of typical value chain with identifications of margins and key market players


- Overview of E2E roles and responsibilities in the area of 5th generation heating networks from financing, planning, building and operating


- Elaborate, assess and show Uniper capabilities and project know-how



- Deriving a long list of strategic approaches and fields of action:


- The consultant will combine the findings of the previous phase with all mentioned results and creating a backlog of strategic approaches and field for actions, promising running external initiatives and public funded projects (both with potential to join)


- Define joint criteria to assess ideas from backlog and derive most promising strategic approach and field for action



- Elaborating the most promising strategic approach and field for action


- After screening all proposals Uniper will decide on the most promising strategic approach and field for action. This decision will take place with the consultation of the consultant


- Enriching chosen strategic approach and field for action and preparing documents for decision making and further planning:


  • Definition of the most critical hypothesis´ which would need to be tested in a potential concept phase
  • Business Model Canvas
  • Strategic evaluation of the idea
  • Role of Uniper along the value chain
  • Business case estimation
  • Assessment of scalability evaluation criteria
  • Assessment of the strategy fit for Uniper
  • Risk Assessment Template
  • Project charter incl. work packages, resources and milestones for possible next phase
  • Overall management summary



The results will be discussed with the client. The client takes over further internal communication. The proposals and any further exchange take place in online meetings (MS Teams) with Uniper. Uniper will give the final sign-off for the results. Intermediate results can be presented during the project period to the client: proposed assessment improvements could be included in next intermediate results.


Complete the Uniper Enrichment Slide Deck (slides and formats will be given).



All above mentioned results will be created in form of a presentation (MS PowerPoint) and an MS Excel file summarizing a further analysis. Uniper will provide the consultant with all necessary information (available research, internal contact details, formats and layouts), access to the systems (MS Teams channel).
